Rejudging: Boy Bands

I’ve talked about how hip hop in today’s era is dead and is utter garbage but the sad fact is that this era’s R&B is in the same piss poor shape as well… but it never use to be this way. Maybe I have high standards of my music I listen to and even though there is a time and a place for ignorant booty music it should never be mainstream. Back when I was in high school I was able to listen to the most talented hip hop and R&B artists in their prime. Eminem, Jay-Z, Ashanti, Mary J. Blige, Mya, Nas, Brandy, Monica and etc. just to name a few.

The one thing I didn’t listen to was pop music. Don’t get me wrong I never thought anything was wrong with pop music because lord knows Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera was playing everywhere especially the Disney Channel. I was just raise with the notion that “pop music was for only the women to enjoy… ESPECIALLY boy bands” so I never listened but I knew boy bands existed. Boy bands like N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degreez, O-Town, Soul 4 Real and etc. were at the top of their game… I just never listened.

Now I was not totally ignorant of popular boy band songs since I used to watch MTV all the time back when MTV actually was a music channel and showed music videos so I would see everyone’s music videos even though I never bought their albums. I would say the one boy band song I actually knew since I heard it played in movies and tv shows was the song “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys…

Well thanks to Spotify, Google Play Music and all other forms of streaming music platforms I have tons of music in my hands from all decades and all eras. So because of the easy accessibility of the music I originally ignored I’ve been lately listening to all of the releases from the early days of Justin Timberlake and his crew along with other acts and I must say it is what is needed in today’s society. It’s sad that today you rarely hear songs about loving someone or the heartbreak of a lost love… but the old school classic tunes of boy bands will fill that void. RIP R&B you will be missed… but I went back in time and I found a new love.

Original Judgement: Boy bands are not for me and were meant only for women.

Current Judgement: Boy bands are not bad… better than today’s R&B scene and will be played regularly.
