Star Wars – Episode Five: The Empire Strikes Back
We return to the Star Wars franchise with a new movie with much higher stakes storyline wise since the first movie. In real life with the success of the first movie “Star Wars” as a brand became a HUGE pop culture game changer juggernaut which has given George Lucas virtually a license to print money with each movie, tv show, action figure and other merchandise that is sold. The new movie “Episode Five: The Empire Strikes Back” not only is a great follow up of Episode Four…. But Episode Five is considered one of the greatest sequels of all time on a list with other great sequels such as: The Godfather pt. 2, The Dark Knight, and etc.
The Story: The film picks up after the Rebel Alliance destroys the Death Star with Darth Vader escaping the explosion. Darth Vader now running shit from the Galactic Republic sets multiple traps from all sides to capture and confront Leia, Han and ESPECIALLY Luke Skywalker. Luke getting tips from Obi-Wan from beyond the grave tells him to go seek old Jedi master Yoda so he can become a full fledge Jedi with his training. The Emperor wants Luke dead or with his side as a Sith Apprentice, Darth Vader wants Luke alive to recruit him as team and to also reveal a dark secret to him…. that he is Luke’s father.
What’s Good: What’s good is that this movie expands heavily on what all of what episode four laid out. With this instalment we get: more deeper lore of the old Jedi Order, more new characters, and more areas like the ice planet Hoth, Cloud City and the Dagobah System. More legendary characters are introduced such as: Yoda, Lando Calrissian and legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett. We also here for the first time the legendary Darth Vader theme which is such badass!
What’s Bad: In my opinion the concept of Luke and Leia being brother and sister really didn’t mean anything in the long run which is why I hate they introduced it on here. In my opinion the couple should have been Luke and Leia on some space Aladdin steez with the rogue commoner Luke ends up saving the royal Princess Leia…. Leia and Han never seem like a good couple to me.
Best Characters: This category is a tie for me from two characters…. A. Boba Fett. Boba’s silent yet determined resolved made him just as a equal threat to Darth Vader. It’s a reason why people want a stand alone Boba Fett origins movie. B. Lando Calrissian. Lando was the space pimp that was able to save the day when the time arrived. Billy Dee Williams’s charm makes the character so intriguing that the current day portrayal of the character played by Donald Glover plays off of the groundwork that Billy Dee laid out for him.
Worst Characters: I don’t understand the point of C3PO… exactly what the fuck is the point of his character. I kinda gave him a pass on the first movie due to his funny interactions with R2D2 but on this movie he was fucking annoying. Just yelling and whining for no reason to the point where every character was screaming for him to shut the fuck up. C3P0 is basically a gay sassy flamboyant man with no one to talk to so he forces himself onto others…. Seriously what is the purpose of this character?
Overall Grade: A+ – This was a great sequel that help build upon so many future stories that can and will be told in future installments. George Lucas is 2 for 2 after this movie release.
The Greatest that Ever was…and that ever will be…
